Jim Webb to Consider Independent Run for President, Campaign Says

Former Virginia senator, who lives in the Falls Church area, will hold a news conference Tuesday in DC.

Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, a Democratic candidate in the 2016 presidential race, will hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss running as an independent in the presidential race, his campaign announced Monday.

The release was titled “Jim Webb To Consider Independent Run.”

Webb will discuss his candidacy, the campaign and his views of the political parties in the current election cycle, his campaign said.

Webb, who lives in the Falls Church area, will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday with reporters at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., his campaign said.

Support for Webb, a veteran and former Republican, is averaging a little more than 1 percent in the presidential campaign in an average of recent polls, according to a RealClearPolitics analysis.

That’s ahead of both former Govs. Martin O’Malley (Md.) and Lincoln Chafee (R.I.).

Democrats Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State, and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont are considered the front-runners among the Democrats.

Webb complained during the first debate among the candidates held on CNN that he didn’t get enough time to talk.
