New Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Principal Chosen
Valerie Hardy, a principal in Fairfax County, was chosen to fill the soon-to-be vacant position at Falls Church's middle school.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Valerie Hardy has been selected as the new principal of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. The current assistant principal of Daniels Run Elementary School in Fairfax County, she will start her term on July 10 pending school board approval.
A selection committee chose Hardy after Principal Ty Harris resigned effective June 30. Hardy said he was resigning to move closer to his daughter, according to the Falls Church News-Press.
“We are so excited to bring in such a qualified candidate who has the skills and background to support the excellence that happens daily at Mary Ellen Henderson, said Superintendent Peter Noonan in a statement. “Mrs. Hardy is first among equals whose leadership potential is endless."

Hardy has over 18 years of experience in education, beginning as a special education teacher, to counselor, to principal. She started her career in Charlottesville, but most of her years have been in Fairfax County Public Schools.

“Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School is an innovative academic community focused on providing rigorous and relevant learning experiences for all students,” Hardy said in a statement. “I am thrilled to join such a wonderful and committed group of educators and excited to meet the students, parents, and members of the Falls Church City community.”
The school board will vote on her appointment at its Tuesday, June 27 meeting.
