NoVA, DC Weather: Wind Advisory As Temperatures Rapidly Fall

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for D.C. and Northern Virginia for Monday evening as a cold front moves into the region.

VIRGINIA/DC — The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia for Monday evening as a cold front moves into the region after a day when temperatures reached into the high 60s.

Winds of 20 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are forecast for the area. The wind advisory will remain in effect until midnight, the NWS said.

Earlier Monday, the NWS announced that the D.C. area could see its first snow of the season on Wednesday, with forecasts of up to an inch of snow possible throughout the region. The snowy weather could cause slippery roads in the western suburbs, where temperatures are expected to be slightly colder, the NWS said.

In its wind advisory, the NWS warned gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects Monday night. Tree limbs could be blown down, causing “a few power outages,” the weather service said.

The highest wind gusts will most likely occur in a two- to four-hour window between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, and drivers should use caution if operating a tall vehicle.

On Tuesday, the D.C. area will see partly cloudy weather, with highs in the low 40s. Winds will not be as strong, blowing about 10 mph out of the northwest with higher gusts, according to the NWS.
