2 Hospitalized In Pimmit Hills Officer-Involved Shooting
Police Chief Ed Roessler Jr. said officers' actions saved the life of the victim who was initially shot.

PIMMIT HILLS, VA — An officer-involved shooting happened in Pimmit Hills Thursday, according to Fairfax County Police.
Police responded to the 2000 block of Peach Orchard Drive around 10:49 a.m. after a teenager had called 911. The teenager said he had been shot in the face by a man who lives in the apartment. The teenager tried to hide from the armed assailant in a bedroom and told the police dispatcher that the man was actively trying to break into the room.

Fairfax County officers and sheriff's deputies in the area responded to the complex and started negotiations with the armed man. There was no progress in the negotiations, and police determined the victim's life was in danger. Officers then entered the home and encountered the suspect armed with a gun. Two officers discharged their weapons, striking the man in the upper body. The officers immediately took the victim from the residence to a safe location and took the man into custody. Officers then rendered aid to the suspect until fire and rescue personnel stepped in.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, a 61-year-old man from Falls Church, was taken to the hospital for treatment. The man's identity and charges will be announced when arrest warrants are served. An officer suffered a minor injury from the incident and was treated at the scene.

"I am very proud of the Fairfax County Police Department, the women and men, and the women and men of the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, and today they are heroes because they saved the life of the victim in this matter," Police Chief Ed Roessler Jr. told reporters.
The two officers involved in the shooting are a 20-year-veteran and 18-year veteran assigned to the Special Operations Division. Per police department policy, the officers are on administrative leave pending results of a criminal and administrative investigation. The Major Crimes Bureau is conducting the criminal investigation into the use of force, the Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting the administrative investigation, and the police auditor is doing an independent review. The names of the officers will be released by the police chief within 10 days.
