Patient Gets Serious Infection From Unlicensed Dentist

An unlicensed dental provider treated the patient in a West Falls Church basement, according to Fairfax County's health department.

The Fairfax County Health Department has a warning for residents: do not see unlicensed providers. The warning was prompted by a dental patient receiving a life-threatening infection after being treated by an unlicensed provider in West Falls Church.

According to the health department, the patient underwent a dental procedure in the basement of a West Falls Church home. Investigators are looking into whether the infection is the result of a dental procedure from the unlicensed dentist. The health department is working with police in an attempt to shut down the unlicensed dental office.

“In an unsanitary basement with unsterile tools, even the best-trained dentist can cause more harm than good,” says Dr. Benjamin Schwartz, Director of Epidemiology and Population Health. “People who undergo these unlicensed procedures are risking their health and safety.”
