Pedestrian Dies After Crash On Route 7 In Bailey's Crossroads

Police believe the pedestrian was walking outside a crosswalk when a vehicle struck him.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — A pedestrian died after being struck in Bailey's Crossroads late Thursday night, according to Fairfax County Police.

The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Payne Street, which is between two shopping centers. Police believe the pedestrian was crossing Leesburg Pike outside a crosswalk when an eastbound Mazda 3 hit him.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead early Friday. He was identified as Mohammed Ishaq, 66, of Alexandria.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

This was the 10th pedestrian fatality across Fairfax County in 2019. Police say there have been 78 crashes involving pedestrians and 84 injuries so far this year. In 2018, there were 16 pedestrian fatalities, 174 pedestrian-involved crashes and 196 injuries.
