Pedestrian Dies After Crash In Seven Corners Parking Lot: Police

A vehicle crash on Wilson Boulevard caused one vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a pedestrian in the parking lot, police say.

SEVEN CORNERS, VA — A pedestrian was struck and killed in a Seven Corners parking lot as the result of a vehicle crash on Wilson Boulevard Thursday, Fairfax County Police say.

The crash happened around 8:38 a.m. Thursday on Wilson Boulevard north of the Arlington Boulevard intersection at the Corner at Seven Corners shopping center. As the drivers of a 2012 Honda Civic and 2017 Volkswagen Jetta were heading north on Wilson Boulevard, the Honda was changing from the left to right lane as the Volkswagen was going from the right to left lane. As the vehicles collided, the Volkswagen left the roadway into the shopping center parking lot.

The pedestrian was walking in the parking lot when the Volkswagen struck him. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. He was identified as Albert Sweat, 62, of Maryland.

The Volkswagen also struck a parked 2010 GMC Yukon. The drivers and passengers in the three vehicles were not injured.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in this crash. Police will present investigation results to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine if anyone will be charged.

This was Fairfax County's 13th pedestrian death in 2022, while there were 10 pedestrian deaths to date in 2021. The Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division has been assigned to provide resources to the victim's family.
