Secure Document Shredding Tour Coming to Oakton
Residents (no businesses) can have their private and/or sensitive documents securely shredded at Oakton High School on Saturday, July 18.

The Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program is sponsoring one secure document shredding event in each supervisory district per calendar year.
This Saturday, July 18, the shredding tour is making a stop at Oakton High School, where residents can gain peace of mind in shredding their personal and/or sensitive documents in a secure manner.
The shredding event is for residents only, and businesses are prohibited from participating. Residents may hail from Oakton, Vienna, Herndon, Clifton, Fairfax City and Falls Church.

- BINDERS of any type (3-ring, plastic, spiral, metal)
- Plastic document covers
- Wet or moist paper
- Hanging file folders with metal support bars
- Metal binder clips
- Electronic media including computer disks and diskettes or CDs
- Books, either hardback or paperback
- Credit cards
- Magazines, catalogs and newspapers (unless just the page with the address)
- Film or photographs
The event will operate like a drive-thru line at a fast food restaurant, as vehicles will be navigated through a line by on-hand staff members. For safety reasons, residents must remain inside their vehicles at all times.
Staff members will remove boxes from your vehicle for you and empty paper from those boxes into rolling carts. Once a cart is full, it will be taken to the shredder for the machine to work its magic.
Fairfax County ensures all documents will be cross-cut shred on-site by a private contractor on the day of the event.
Following the event, all paper will be delivered to a local recycling facility for processing.
