Snow Emergency Routes Activated, Government Closed as of Noon Friday

City of Falls Church has declared a Snow Emergency starting at noon Friday; snow emergency routes will be activated.

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- In response to the Blizzard Watch issued by the National Weather Service, the City has declared a Snow Emergency starting at noon on Friday, Jan. 22.

This means that the Snow Emergency Routes will be activated at that time (noon); see list of routes below and at www.fallschurchva.gov/SnowRoutes. City Government offices and services will close at noon, including the Community Center and Library; see details below or at www.fallschurchva.gov/Snow.

The City will make updates via www.fallschurchva.gov/Snow, www.facebook.com/CityOfFallsChurchGov, and www.twitter.com/FallsChurchGov. Those without access to the internet can check for updates via recorded message on the Citizen Information Line, 703-248-5002. True emergencies will also be texted or emailed to subscribers of Falls Church Alerts (alert.fallschurchva.gov). Closures and cancellations are reported to local TV and radio media.

Closures and Cancellations

  • CLOSED AT NOON, FRIDAY, JAN. 22 THROUGH SUNDAY, JAN. 24: City Government offices and services, including the Community Center, Library, Permits Counter; all services expect to open on Monday, Jan. 25
  • CANCELED: Library activities on Friday and Saturday -- Mother Goose Rhyme Time (Fri., Jan. 22) and Sing Books with Emily (Sat., Jan. 23; will be rescheduled)
  • CANCELED: Recreation and Parks activities and classes that start after noon on Fri., Jan. 22; all activities and classes on Sat., Jan. 23
  • CANCELED: Farmers Market (Sat., Jan. 23)
  • CANCELED: Open House: W&OD Trail Master Plan (Sat., Jan. 23; will be rescheduled)

Snow Emergency Routes
The City’s snow emergency routes need to be open for first responders, public safety officials and road crews at all times and thus have priority for salting, sanding and plowing. Residents and visitors are not permitted to park along these routes during a City-declared Snow Emergency. Vehicles abandoned or parked on snow emergency routes could be ticketed and towed to allow snow removal crews to clear the roads.
