The event aims to get residents outside and involved in physical activity. In 2016, the Citizens Advisory Committee on Transportation made it a priority initiative in the city. Falls Church piloted the program last year during May and June.
Residents interested in holding a Play Street event in their neighborhood can apply at City Hall's Permits Counter. Play Streets events can run April 1-Oct. 31 and applications must be submitted at least 10 days before the event. Eligible streets cannot intersect Broad or Washington Streets and must be adjacent to residential or school land. Play Streets are limited to one block.
