Student Arrested For Making Bomb Threat At George Mason High

A George Mason High School student is accused of threatening a school shooting or bombing.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Falls Church Police have arrested a student they believe was making threats of a shooting or bombing at George Mason High School.

Police say the suspect, a 17 year old student and Falls Church resident, threatened students and teachers. Police Chief Mary Gavin told The Washington Post the suspect told students and an administrator he wanted to "do damage by shooting up the school" with explosives.

According to a school district statement, a student notified the administration of the student's alleged threats on Dec. 5. The suspect was arrested near his family’s home and was taken to Arlington County Juvenile Court for a hearing. He was charged with threatening to bomb or damage a building. The Washington Post reports.

Administration reported to police, who launched an investigation into the suspect. Police have seized items from his home, including a BB gun made to look like a real firearm. Initial findings show no one else is involved and there is no threat to the public.

"While police believe this to have been a single threat made by a single student, we urge our students, staff, and community to remain vigilant - and yes, if you see or hear something, say something," Superintendent Peter Noonan and Principal Matt Hills said in a statement.

Police ask anyone with information to call Detective Richardson at 703-248-5327.
