Virginia's Election Procedures and Practices Have Changed

Are you ready to vote on November 4? LWVFC to Sponsor September 28 Forum on New Voting Rule

The League of Women Voters of Falls Church will sponsor a forum on Sunday September 28 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to highlight new changes in Virginia’s election procedures and practices. The forum will feature the members of the Falls Church Electoral Board—Renee Andrews, Linda Neighborgall and Margarette Shovlin—and Falls Church General Registrar David Bjerke, and will be moderated by Edith Holmes Snyder, president of the Falls Church League. The event will be held in the Senior Center of the city’s Kenneth R. Burnett Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street.

Among other issues, the panel will highlight Virginia’s new photo identification requirements. Panelists will address other election administration issues such as Vote Centers, Vote by Mail, and how voter turnout can be increased. (In the 2012 presidential election, Falls Church City posted the highest voter turnout in the state—87.5 percent of active registered voters.) Audience members will also have the opportunity to share their ideas on how the voting process could be improved.

The November 4th ballot will include races for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House and the Falls Church city treasurer, an amendment to Virginia’s Constitution and a referendum on issuing bonds for an expansion of Mt. Daniel Elementary School.
