West Falls Church Metro Development's Rezoning OK'd In Fairfax County
The development connecting to the City of Falls Church's development under construction got approval to move forward in Fairfax County.

FALLS CHURCH, VA —The redevelopment on Virginia Tech and West Falls Church Metro land is advancing after the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors gave the final rezoning approval Tuesday.
The West Falls Church development includes three mixed-use development pieces planned in the area on the City of Falls Church and Fairfax County border. The Fairfax County portion includes development on Virginia Tech land, which gained rezoning approval Tuesday, and West Falls Church Metro land, which Washington Business Journal reported gained rezoning approval earlier this summer.
The third piece of the development is the City of Falls Church portion on the former George Mason High School site after the new Meridian High School was built. That West Falls development is already under construction and could have the first phase open in 2024.

With Fairfax County approval for the Virginia Tech site rezoning application, the developers can get a site plan approval and building permits from the county. That process could take a year before construction can begin.
The West Falls Church Metro site will be the largest piece of the development with 25 acres. That development will replace 800 underutilized surface parking spots at the Metro station with up to 90 townhouses, 810 apartments, an office building, retail, green space and a transit plaza with kiss-and-ride and bus stops. The existing parking garage at the station will remain.

The Virginia Tech redevelopment on 7.5 acres is planned to get up to 440 multifamily residential units, office space and Virginia Tech institutional use.
The nearly 10-acre City of Falls Church development will include up to 400 apartments, 126 condominiums, a 215-unit senior living community, medical office, hotel, retail, grocery store and community space.
The developments will be connected through a grid of new streets and include upgraded pedestrian and bicyclist facilities connecting Route 7 and the West Falls Church Metro.
