Awesome Eats @ Mexico Part II

Awesome Eats visits Mexico for the food after sipping the drinks last time.

Last week Awesome Eats took you to the tropics and . I think I returned home with some sand in my shoes and the smell of Hawaiian Tropic on my skin, not to mention a few tiny paper umbrellas stuck in my teeth. This week we asked owner James Macias to bring on his Awesome Eats entrees, and boy did he.

The first entree was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds: a fresh pineapple half that holds succulent grilled seafood and chicken, with scallops, shrimp, yellow and green peppers, grilled red tomatoes and slightly caramelized onions.  The fresh pineapple chunks were grilled to bring out the naturally sweet and tropical flavor. What a wonderful summer dish this is and what a way to feel like you may be in a resort restaurant off the coast of anywhere tropical.

Those looking for a little meat and heat should try the Chori Pollo. The entree has tender grilled strips of chicken with spicy Mexican chorizo sausage covered in their special melted cheese.  It is served with lettuce, tomato and sour cream that beg for a warm, soft flour tortilla.  If pork is more your dish, Mexico makes a melt-in-your-mouth Chile Verde.  The Chile Verde's pork is cooked slow and low and just falls apart.

Customer Bruce Cushing is enjoying dinner with his family at the next table and chimes in that he has been visiting Mexico restaurant for the past three years.

“They have the coldest beer in town, as well as the largest selection to choose from. Their fajitas are loaded with chicken and everything in it is fresh and hot, and the fried ice cream is the best," he said. Cushing also said he likes to stop in after a round of golf with his friends and grab a great dinner while watching sports in the bar area.

Topping off the wonderful dinner is a dessert known in Mexico and other parts called Tres-Lech cake, which is soaked in three kinds of milk and topped with a light and fluffy white frosting.  The cake is even better if you get an order to go and put it in the fridge for two days before eating it, if you can keep your hands off it that long.  Mexico also makes the more commonly known Mexican favorite dessert Churros. The crispy pastry stick is rolled in cinnamon and sugar then drizzled with caramel sauce, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries.

When you go to, tell staff that you have come for their Awesome Eats and Drinks as seen in Fredericksburg Patch. You can read about Mexico's cocktails .
