Body Found Beside Home In Spotsylvania: Police

After returning Sunday from a family trip to Virginia Beach, the owners of a Spotsylvania County home found a dead man beside their porch.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA—After returning Sunday from a family trip to Virginia Beach, Kerrie and Scott Mattice, the owners of a Spotsylvania home in Enchanted Woods, found a dead man beside their front porch, as reported by the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star. It hasn't been identified, and the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office is trying to find out how the body got there and under what circumstances.

A vehicle had crashed into a ditch in front of the home Thursday night, according to a note from police Kerrie Mattice, 47, said she found tucked inside their front storm door, adding it had since been towed. She was told a man with a baby got out of the vehicle and contacted police after going to a neighbor's home, but it's unclear whether that incident was related to the dead body.

Scott Mattice, 48, told the newspaper he found the victim around 11 a.m. while going to get his lawnmower. He said it was lying stretched out behind a large bush, and that it was bloated, had spots on it and appeared to be that of a black man in his 20s. He said he didn't notice any injuries.
