Dealing With Rain on Your Wedding Day

Who knows what the weather will be like on your wedding day!  You plan everything else down to the last detail but this is one Mother Nature does all on her own.  So what’s a bride to do?

Take A Page From The Girl Scout Motto: Always Be Prepared

Whether its snow, rain, hurricane, or hot as the dickens because it’s summer time in Virginia you need to be prepared.

Outdoor weddings are more of a challenge than indoor but can still be manageable as long as we’re not in hurricane  conditions. Let’s face it. Virginia summers can be downright hot and muggy.  Not to mention the possibility of rain.  Hopefully you’ve factored in some large fans to help with the temperature part, but what about rain?

I did a quick review of a number of articles already written on the subject of how to make the best of your wedding day with rain.

Every bride considering an outdoor wedding ceremony or reception needs to have a contingency plan in case of rain.  Here are some of the highlights I found:

  •  Does the venue offer inside possibilities? Or do you have a tent with sides already planned?
  •  Have clear umbrellas for the wedding party.  Why clear?  It allows more light on your face.  Colored umbrellas can leave colors on your face in photos.  But colored umbrellas in your wedding colors or cute polka dot etc. can also provide great photos.  I do have to laugh though.  The photos I saw had the groom holding the clear bubble umbrella and the bride basically in the rain because the umbrellas aren’t meant for two people.  Big golf umbrellas easily fit two people under them.
  • Colored rain boots for the bride and bridesmaids can be adorable.
  • White towels to dry seats etc with.
  • Clear plastic paint tarps to cover areas and supplies.
  • And brides make sure your eyeliner/mascara is waterproof.  Extra hair spray wouldn’t hurt either.
