Fredericksburg School Named A National Blue Ribbon Winner

A Fredericksburg public school is one of 349 schools nationwide to win a Blue Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA—A Fredericksburg public school is one of 349 schools nationwide to win a Blue Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education this year, the district announced. Chancellor Elementary was one of eight Virginia schools to receive the honor.

Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has highlighted more than 8,800 educational institutions that have test scores in the top 15 percent in their state and no major gaps among students from different demographics.

Chancellor Elementary School, at 5995 Plank Road, is a member of Spotsylvania County Public Schools. In a message posted on its website, the school said: "Congratulations to the staff, students, and parents of Chancellor Elementary! . . .Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work and support!"

The Department of Education will honor the 349 Blue Ribbon Schools on Nov. 7-8 at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC.
