Fun Events with Old Dominion Humane Society Rescue Dogs Throughout September

Don’t Miss Yoga, a Paint Pawty, Hikes, Strolls and More—All to Benefit the Rescue Dogs

Fredricksburg, Va. (August 27, 2026)—Keep busy with free activities like hikes, strolls and meet-and-greets at local businesses with Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) rescue dogs in September. Paint and yoga sessions are creative and healthy events, where the cost to register benefits the dogs. With so much to do and so many four-legged friends to meet, it’s easy to find a favorite to add to the family.

Saturday Strolls—September 5,12, 19, 26

Take a rescue dog on easy, weekly Saturday Strolls at 7:45 a.m. Meet volunteers at the facility, where they’ll pair dogs with participants and head in a caravan to a different spot each week. The strolls are on flat, simple paths with an indoor backup for wet weather. Don’t miss the chance to get exercise, socialize with fellow dog lovers and give the pups a chance to explore.

Sunday Hikes—September 6, 13, 20, 27

Make Sunday Hikes a weekly tradition--hike three-to-five miles paired with a furry buddy, and enjoy the fresh air. Meet at ODHS at 7:45 a.m., and volunteers will match hikers with rescue dogs. The group will then caravan to one of the many beautiful trails in Fredericksburg.

First Friday at Fraser Wood Elements—September 4

First Friday at Fraser Wood Elements is the perfect way to start the weekend, and the pups will make their appearance from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visit the store, which features premium furniture from top U.S. brands, and meet some rescue dogs looking to curl up in a forever home.

Tales & Tails Adoption Event—September 5

Stop by Tales & Tails Book Cafe to check out the cutest rescue pups around from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The dogs are available for adoption and will make the next chapter of life one to remember.

Yoga Pawty—September 11 and September 25

Pairing puppy cuddles with yoga is the perfect combination for relaxation, and Yoga Pawties at ODHS provide both. Start off with irresistible puppies at 5:30 p.m. followed by yoga from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Space is limited, so preregister soon at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/yoga-pawty.

Fredericksburg Pet Palooza—September 12 & 13

It’s time for two days of Pet Palooza at the Fredericksburg Convention Center, where ODHS will have a booth with rescue dogs waiting to be adopted. Stop by to watch tail wagging and silly antics, and get some wet kisses from adorable dogs. Visit the ODHS booth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 12 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 13.

Pilates Pawty at ODHS with Crunch Fitness—September 18

It’ll be a core-strengthening workout at ODHS when a guest instructor from Crunch Fitness leads a Pilates Pawty from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Let the stress go with puppy cuddles and stretching. Puppy Yoga and Bottomless Mimosas at The Barking Barley—September 19

What’s better than yoga, bottomless mimosas and the cutest puppies around? Get ready for a session of yoga geared to every level from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by cuddly puppies and playtime. The event’s highlights are guided meditation and yoga at 10:30 a.m.; open puppy playtime in the park at 11:30 a.m.; and a bottomless mimosa bar (brunch snacks also available) throughout the event. A portion of the sales go to ODHS.

Paint Pawty—September 19

It’s time to “unleash” that inner artist at the ODHS Paint Pawty, where guests create an awesome portrait of a favorite pet. No art skills are necessary—even those who can’t draw a straight line will produce a piece of work they’ll cherish. Dog Krazy Ruther Glen Adoption Event—September 19

Rescue dogs will be front and center at Dog Krazy Ruther Glen to show off their personalities—snugglers, zoomie professionals and couch potatoes. Stop by and check out the furballs that are always ready for attention and a back scratch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They’re all available for adoption and will be ready to go home with their new families.

Fall Fest and Fashion Show at Spotsylvania Towne Centre—September 26

Stop by the ODHS tent to meet adoptable rescue dogs at Spotsylvania Towne Centre’s Fall Fest and Fashion Show from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll be waiting to see if a forever family is in their future. While at the event, check out the ODHS dogs in the latest fashions as they prance around in style, and don’t miss the Mad Science Show, slime making, face painting, bounce houses, DJ party dance-offs and much more.

Puppy Yoga at Awesome ‘Possumz—September 27

Don’t miss this beginner-friendly, low-impact yoga class at Awesome ‘Possumz from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Yoga is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by puppy cuddles.
