Gun Give Back Event Turned Into 'Cheap Gun Buy Opportunity' in Fredericksburg

The third annual event by Fredericksburg Police has been seized upon by the gun-rights group Ammoland.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A gun rights organization is attempting to turn Saturday's 3rd Annual Gun Give Back Event sponsored by Fredericksburg Police into something else altogether.

Consider this headline on a story about the event on the website Ammoland:

"Cheap Gun Buy Opportunity in Fredericksburg VA"

And from the story: ". . .if you offer hard cash to the sellers, you can probably get some nice guns for a song. Some gun owners have done so in the past by parking on the road that leads to the police station, and holding up some signs indicating they are offering cash for guns."

Alrighty, then.

Fredericksburg Police spokesman Sarah Kirkpatrick said Tuesday she's aware of Ammoland's campaign but doesn't anticipate problems, adding that the practice is, in fact, legal.

The gun give back event is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fredericksburg Police headquarters, 2200 Cowan Boulevard.

Gun owners have the opportunity to turn over unwanted firearms to police with no questions asked.

All guns turned in will either be destroyed or donated to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science to assist with research.

Those wishing to give up their guns must transport them unloaded in the trunk of the vehicle, and an officer will meet you in the parking lot.
