The Fredericksburg Farmers Market will be holding the last of their popular First Saturday events on October 5, 2013. This month is a Harvest Festival them to celebrate the dedicated local farmers who bring their products to the market year round. The market runs year round on Saturday's, 7am-2pm. Events in the park run from 9am-1pm.
In addition to the great local produce, meat and seafood, honey, eggs, breads and baked goods, there will be activities for everyone in the family! At the mini pumpkin patch kids can select a pie size pumpkin for a $2 donation to the market's SNAP program. Fred Parent will be offering pumpkin decorating at a nearby tent. There will also be free face painting for the kids.
Adults can choose beautiful, locally grown items for their seasonal decor. General's Ridge Vineyard will be sampling their popular local wines. Parks and Rec's Art in the Park series will also be holding its final show of the year. And, their will be live music by Marenje Marimba for the whole family to enjoy.
In celebration of Fredericksburg's first ever Food Day, the market has teamed up with the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank to offer BUY ONE, BAG ONE, a fresh fruit and veggie drive to benefit local families in need. Shoppers can pick up a donation bag at the Food Bank tent, BUY ONE local fruit or vegetable for their family, and BAG ONE for a local family in need. Donation bags can be returned to the Food Bank tent for a tax deductible receipt. Cash donations are also welcome and will be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. This is especially timely with the recent government shutdown. This event will occur at the Spotsylvania Farmers Market on October 26.
Over a dozen Food Day celebrations will be held throughout the area during the month of October. Click here to see events near you.
