Motorcycle Crash Kills Spotsylvania Resident: Police

A man from Spotsylvania died in a motorcycle crash on Tuesday, just one day after another Spotsylvania man died in a car crash.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A man from Spotsylvania County died in a motorcycle crash in Fredericksburg on Tuesday evening, according to a report from the Fredericksburg Police Department. It is the second traffic-related death of a Spotsylvania resident in 24 hours.

Around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Fredericksburg's 911 call center received a report of a crash. Callers said the crash occurred in the 3300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a motorcycle driver who was unconscious and in critical condition, according to a police report. Other rescue personnel arrived and took the driver to a nearby hospital.

Just after midnight, the driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. After next of kin were notified, authorities identified the driver as Nathaniel Beitzel, a 23-year-old Spotsylvania County resident. Officials did not disclose what could have caused the crash.

On Monday night, another vehicle crash caused the death of a Spotsylvania resident.

At 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, Spotsylvania County deputies received a report of a single vehicle crash near Harrison Road and Leavells Road. There was only on person in the car, police said.

At the scene, deputies determined that the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling north on Harrison Road as it approached the intersection with Leavells Road. The Tahoe left the right side of the road, struck a tree, and overturned into the roadway.

Emergency personnel took the driver of the Tahoe to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. He died at the hospital, police said.

Authorities identified the driver as Shawn Allen Gray, a 43-year-old Spotsylvania resident.

Members of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff Office's Accident Reconstruction Team said they are still investigating the crash.
