Old Dominion Humane Society Has Fun Events for Everyone in May

Fredericksburg, Va. (April 13, 2026)—Leisurely strolls and vigorous hikes with rescue dogs, yoga with puppy snuggles and meet-and-greets with adoptable pups are on the schedule at Old Dominion Humane Society in May. Check out the list of events, visit the rescue dogs, enjoy wet kisses and bring home a rescue dog to adopt, foster or hang out for a few days at a “Slumber Party.”

Saturday Strolls—May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Join ODHS dogs on easy, weekly walks during Saturday Strolls at 7:45 a.m. Meet volunteers at the facility, where they’ll pair a dog with participants and head in a caravan to a different spot each week. The strolls are on flat, simple paths with an indoor backup for wet or cold weather. Don’t miss the chance to get exercise, socialize with fellow dog lovers and give the dogs a chance to explore.

Sunday Hikes—May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

Make Sunday mornings a weekly tradition--hike three-to-five miles paired with a furry buddy and enjoy the fresh air on local trails. Meet at ODHS at 7:45 a.m. to be matched with a rescue dog, and set out on a caravan to one of the many beautiful trails in Fredericksburg.

Tales & Tails Adoption Event—May 2

The ODHS rescue dogs will be on hand as loyal reading companions and cuddlers at Tales & Tails Adoption Event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Browse through books, visit with the pups and bring a new friend home to start the next chapter of life.

Trivia for a Cause at Brock’s Riverside Grill—May 6

Get ready to test your knowledge during “Trivia for a Cause” at Brock’s Riverside Grill from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hosted by Go Local FXBG, the proceeds from the raffle go directly to the ODHS rescue dogs.

Puppy Yoga—May 8

Get ready to indulge in 30 minutes of puppy cuddles to melt away stress followed by yoga at the ODHS facility from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The perfect combination for relaxation, Puppy Yoga costs $20 per person. FXBG Farmers Market at Hurkamp Park—May 9

Pick up fresh fruits, vegetables and a furry friend from ODHS while shopping at the FXBG Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet the crew of cuddlers and zoomie experts available for adoption, and take one home.

Puppy Yoga at Awesome ‘Possumz—May 17

Dog Krazy Cosner’s Corner Adoption Event—May 23

Stop by to meet that forever friend at Dog Krazy Cosner’s Corner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. From professional snugglers to expert fetchers to couch potatoes, the ODHS rescue dogs available for adoption will be on hand to greet with tail wags, puppy cuddles and wet kisses.

Adoption events are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., Fridays from 6-8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications in advance are preferred and take priority over walk-ins.
