Pedestrian Struck In Walmart Parking Lot, Teen Driver Charged With Reckless Driving: Cops

A 70-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured on Friday night after an SUV hit her in a Stafford Walmart parking lot, police said.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — An SUV hit a pedestrian in the parking lot of a Stafford County Walmart on Friday, police said.

The 70-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital. The driver of the SUV, who police only identified as a 16-year-old, was charged with reckless driving.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at the Walmart on Village Parkway. Authorities determined that the pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart through the parking lot when an SUV hit her. Emergency personnel responded and took the woman to the hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, police said.

The Stafford County Sheriff's only identified the driver of the SUV as a 16-year-old. They were charged with one count of reckless driving and released on a summons.

According to reports from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, at least six people have been hit by cars in the county since July 2021. In that time, three of the people died as a result of injuries suffered in the crashes.
