Meet the 14 Beagles Released from Ridglan Farms Breeding Facility and Rescued by Old Dominion Humane Society
Fredericksburg, Va. (May 9, 2026)—The public is invited to Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) to meet 14 beagles released from Ridglan Farms in Blue Mound, Wis., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. The event is a thank you to the community for its support in the beagles’ rescue, as well as its generosity throughout the year.
The beagles were transported by NYC Second Chance Rescue, where ODHS Founder Chrissy Hamilton picked them up at its Long Island City, NY, location to bring them to Fredericksburg last Sunday.
ODHS fosters stepped in to care for the beagles within hours of their arrival to Fredericksburg. In the last several days, they’ve had the opportunity to decompress from their journey and a life confined to being kept in wire kennels. They were finally able to run around the grass, play and socialize with their fosters.
“ODHS is so fortunate to have the community’s support with the Ridglan Farms beagles,” said Hamilton. “This is our chance to thank the community by inviting the public to the Ridglan Beagle Open House at ODHS and getting the chance to meet them. It’s amazing to see them running around and finally being able to enjoy the lives they deserve.”
ODHS is celebrating the fact that most of the beagles already have forever homes lined up. A majority of them will be adopted in a record six days.
The beagles will be at ODHS from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg, Va.
The 14 of 1,500 beagles released from Ridglan Farms arrived at ODHS on May 3. In a partnership with NYC Second Chance Rescue, Hamilton traveled with volunteer Anna Swann to Long Island City, NY, to transport the beagles to Fredericksburg. NYC Second Chance Rescue’s team drove two cars and flew a plane to Wisconsin last weekend to get hundreds of beagles and bring them to its facility, where Hamilton and Swann were waiting for the dogs.
Founded in 1966, Ridglan Farms, Inc.’s mission is to provide purpose bred beagles for research that increases and exceeds the expectations of the research community. The company’s slogan is “purpose bred beagles for biomedical research.”
ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Adoption events are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., Fridays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applications in advance are preferred and take priority over walk-ins.
