Second Pedestrian Death In Spotsylvania Under Investigation

The accident comes less than a week after a 41-year-old Fredericksburg man was also hit and killed on a Spotsylvania road.

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — For the second time this week, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while crossing a Spotsylvania street. According to a report, a 36-year-old man was killed late Thursday when he stepped in front of a car on Jefferson Davis Highway and was struck.

The victim was attempting to cross the road in the area of 5320 Jefferson Davis Highway and Market Street around 10 p.m., the Free Lance-Star reported, when he was hit by a car traveling southbound on Route 1. The car was traveling through a green light and, according to officials, didn't have enough time to react.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending next-of-kin notification. The driver will not be charged.

This is the second pedestrian death on Spotsylvania roads in less than a week. On Saturday, 41-year-old Deven P. Morgan of Fredericksburg was attempting to cross the street in the 10900 block of Courthouse Road when he was hit by a car traveling eastbound on Courthouse Road.

When deputies arrived, several people were attempting to aid Morgan, who had life-threatening injuries. Morgan was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries, officials said.
