Stafford High School Students Raise More Than $400 to Sponsor Litter of Puppies From Old Dominion Humane Society

Future Business Leaders of America Students Sponsor and Name Litter of Puppies

Fredericksburg, Va. (December 22, 2025)—Stafford High School’s (SHS) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students raised nearly $450 that will go toward sponsoring a litter of puppies at Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS). The students chose an Anime theme for the mother and her seven pups. The sponsorship is $300, and the remainder of the money raised will go to the nonprofit organization, which saves dogs from neglect, hoarding and mistreatment situations.

Maggie Bautista, SHS economics & personal finance teacher, is the FBLA sponsor. Her students worked months in advance to market the fundraiser by creating posters about ODHS and information about the sponsorships. Morning announcements let students throughout the school know about FBLA’s goal to collect enough donations to sponsor a litter.

Students, who voted on names for the mother dog and her pups, chose an Anime theme. The mother dog is Maki, and her pups are Toji, Gojo, Todo, Yuta, Mahoraga, Sukuna and Yuji.

“We’re grateful to have so many people in the community support ODHS,” said Chrissy Hamilton, ODHS founder. “The Stafford High School FBLA students worked hard to help the rescue dogs, and we’re so appreciative. Since ODHS is a no-kill, volunteer-led organization that’s not government-funded, we rely on donations to pay for dog food, veterinary care and many other expenses to provide the dogs with a chance to find forever homes. The students and their advisor, Ms. Bautista, have helped give these dogs a second chance at lives they deserve.”

ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Adoption events are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., Fridays from 6-8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications in advance are preferred and take priority over walk-ins.
