Stafford Man Charged With Killing Foster Son Released on Bond: Media Report

Baby boy, 12 months old, died Feb. 1 in Richmond after being airlifted from local hospital.

A Stafford County man charged with killing his foster son was released on a $75,000 bond from jail Thursday, a Washington TV station reported.

David John Marcussen, 33, of 635 Village Parkway, has been indicted by a Stafford grand jury for murder, child neglect and other charges stemming from the death of Ka’ron Mason, a 12-month-old baby boy who died Feb. 1 in a Richmond hospital. The child reportedly suffered serious burns when Marcussen gave him a scalding hot bath on New Year’s Day.

Ka’ron was brought to a local hospital with burns to his face, torso and neck, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. He was then airlifted to the burn unit at the MCV Hospital in Richmond.

In a court hearing Thursday, Marcussen was released from the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $75,000 bond, WUSA-TV Channel 9 reported. He was ordered not to have contact with any children other than his own two children, and that contact will be supervised.

Marcussen has been charged with one count of felony murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of cruelty to children and one count of child neglect, according to the sheriff’s office.
