Thanksgiving 2019: What's Open, Closed In Fredericksburg Area
Train routes, schools and government offices may be impacted by the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday in and around Fredericksburg.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — While closures are a given for most services on Thanksgiving, Fredericksburg residents should also be aware of closures on surrounding days like Black Friday. Government offices, libraries and other services will be closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while services like the post office will operate on Black Friday.
Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 29 (Black Friday).
Fredericksburg City Offices: All Fredericksburg city offices will be closed Nov. 28-29.

Stafford County Offices: Stafford County government offices will close at 12 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through Nov. 29.
Spotsylvania County Offices: Spotsylvania County government offices will close at 12 p.m. Nov. 27 and remain closed through Nov. 29.

Post offices and mail: Closed Thanksgiving Day.

Black Friday 2019 Sales, When Stores Open In Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg City Schools: Fredericksburg Schools will be closed Nov. 27-29.
Stafford County Schools: Stafford County Schools will be closed Nov. 27-29.
Spotsylvania County Schools: Spotsylvania County Schools will be closed Nov. 27-29.
Local and state courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Nov. 28-29.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Thanksgiving Day. On Black Friday, VRE will operate on an "S" Schedule, meaning only trains with an "S" above the train number on the schedule will operate. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
Historic Sites and Museums: The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania Visitor Center, in addition to the Stafford County Information Center at Belmont, will be closed. The Fredericksburg Area Museum also will be closed on Thanksgiving.
Libraries: All branches of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed through Friday, Nov. 29.
Trash Collection: Curbside trash/recycling collection on Wednesday will take place on schedule. There will be no trash or recycling pick up on Thursday. Trash and recycling collections for both Thursday and Friday will take place on Friday. Private haulers may work on a different schedule, so contact your provider to verify any schedule changes.
Recycling/Landfill: The Belman Road Recycling Center, the Stafford Landfill and the Livingston Landfill will be closed Thursday. All locations will be open normal hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Grocery Stores: Wegman's will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, and will reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. At Giant Food, grocery opens Thanksgiving from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.; pharmacy open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walmart is open normal hours for grocery shoppers on Thanksgiving, but check with stores for variation. Target is open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
