U.S. 17 Lanes In Stafford Close For Overpass Demolition: Report

Motorists should expect intermittent full traffic stops while crews demolish the northbound I-95 overpass.

STAFFORD, VA — Motorists should expect delays while traveling on U.S. 17 during the first half of October. According to reports, intermittent full traffic stops will take place on the roadway while crews demolish the northbound overpass at the Interstate 95 interchange.

U.S. 17 traffic from both directions will be stopped for periods of 30 minutes between midnight and 3 a.m. on weekdays through Oct. 18, the Free Lance-Star reports. There also will be single-lane closures leading up to and following the intermittent traffic stops.

Crews are replacing both I-95 overpasses at the U.S. 17 interchange as part of the southbound Rappahannock River crossing project. Traffic will be rerouted to the new bridges in summer 2020.
