Police Seek Tips After Vehicle Struck By Gunfire On Fredericksburg's Sophia Street

Police are investigating a June 20 shooting that damaged a vehicle on Sophia Street in Fredericksburg and are seeking witnesses.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg police are asking for the public's help as detectives investigate a shots-fired incident in downtown Fredericksburg that damaged a parked vehicle but left no one injured.

The Fredericksburg Police Department said officers responded to the 900 block of Sophia Street at about 2:40 a.m. last Saturday after the city's E-911 center received reports of gunfire. Officers found an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck multiple times by bullets. Police said no injuries were reported, and investigators did not find any additional property damage in the area.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing a white Jeep and a green Jeep in or around the area around the time of the shooting. No further suspect description has been released.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and collecting additional evidence as the investigation continues.

Police are asking anyone with security camera footage recorded between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on June 20, or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, to contact the Fredericksburg Police Department at 540-373-3122, option 2. Anonymous tips also can be submitted by texting "FPDtip" and the tip to 847-411 or through the department's free FPD Tip mobile app.

No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
