• Fries Dam repairs underway (pmg-va.com) — Major repairs are underway at Fries Dam after Hurricane Helene’s 2024 floodwaters damaged the canal wall, forcing federal regulators to halt normal operations. Work led by Ethos Energy is expected to last up to two more years, with cofferdams, heavy construction, and environmental monitoring as the historic facility moves toward safely generating power again.
   

• Deputy injured in suspect capture (pmg-va.com) — A Grayson County deputy was injured in Fries while arresting a man wanted on a capias near Adder Lane and Tabernacle Road. After a brief foot chase, the suspect allegedly threatened the deputy with a knife before being subdued and taken into custody without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.
