• Virginia attorney general launches investigation into Wallens Ridge homicide (wset.com) — State officials are now formally investigating the 2025 death of inmate Aubrey McKay at the Wise County correctional facility, which the medical examiner ruled a homicide by multifactorial asphyxia. At the governor’s request, the Virginia Attorney General’s Office has taken over the case, while Smyth County’s prosecutor has recused himself due to ties with a potential witness.
