Aggravated Sexual Battery Charge Filed Against Herndon Man

HERNDON, VA — Town of Herndon police charged a local man in connection with an indecent liberties with child incident that occurred March 18 within town limits, according to the weekly crime report.

HPD arrested Jose Maximo Benitez, 45, of Herndon, and charged him with aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a child victim who was known to him. The incident took place in the 800 block of Sycamore St. in Herndon.

Police transported Benitez to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

Herndon police also arrested Jairo Adonay Ruano Anzora, 20, of Herndon, on multiple charges including felony gang participation, assault, and robbery, according to the weekly crime report.

A male victim told police that he was going for a walk around 10 p.m., on June 18, 2019, in the 600 block of Dulles Court, when two men approached him. After trying to take the victim's phone, the two men fled on foot.

Another male victim was approached by four men around 4:30 p.m., on March 28, 2021. After assaulting the victim, the men stole his phone, according to police.

HPD arrested Anzora in connection with the March 28 assault. Police charged him with two counts of felony gang participation (felony), three counts of robbery (felony), two counts of assault by mob (misdemeanor), three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor (misdemeanor), one count of obstruction of justice (misdemeanor), and one count of giving false identification to law enforcement (misdemeanor).

Anzora was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
