Volunteers from Allstate Insurance, including independent agents, joined Assistance League® of Northern Virginia (ALNV) at ALNV’s Weekend Food for Kids packing event on Thursday, October 15. Allstate’s Christine Angles, who has been bringing coworkers to WFFK packings since 2017, presented ALNV VP Carrie Sawicki with a donation of $10,000.

Each month, ALNV members, friends, and other community volunteers package 1,900 individual bags of non-perishable food items to be distributed weekly to students facing weekend food insecurity in six of its local partner Title I elementary schools. According to Christine Angles, who has been attending these events since 2017, “It’s such a great organization, and this is so well organized. I come in and people are hugging me. Everyone’s so warm and I love it.”

Throughout the year, ALNV provides weekend food packets for children facing food insecurity without school-provided meals, as well as new seasonal-appropriate clothing, socks, underwear, and coats. ALNV also provides books for all children in partner schools regardless of need, along with reading tutoring in several of the partner schools.
