Herndon Man Charged For Shooting At Clarke County Deputy: Police
Timothy B. Neal, 33, of Herndon, is being held without bond after attempting to shoot a deputy while he was sitting in his car.
CULPEPER, VA — A Herndon man is facing an attempted capital murder charge after shooting at a Clarke County Sheriff’s Deputy Monday morning. Timothy B. Neal, 33, is being held without bond at the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center following an incident where he pulled a gun on a deputy, who was sitting inside his patrol car, and fired.
According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 8:45 a.m., an officer responded to a medical emergency call at a farmer's market located in the 4800 block of Harry Byrd Highway. When the deputy and an ambulance arrived, the man who reported being in distress had left the market on foot.
The deputy searched for the man — later identified as Neal — and located him walking in the median of Route 7. The deputy requested identification from Neal, who complied, and returned to his patrol car to check Neal’s information. Neal then pulled a concealed weapon from his waistband and fired at the deputy’s vehicle, hitting it, police said. The deputy took cover and returned fire, striking Neal.
