Herndon Man Indicted In Drug Related Murder

Defendant and co-conspirators fled the U.S. for Honduras after shooting, according to U.S. Attorney's Office.

A federal grand jury has indicted a Herndon man for his alleged involvement in the death of a Reston man in 2011.

Saul Pacheco Mejia, 48, of Herndon, faces charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, and the use of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime resulting in death.

Prosecutors haven’t decided wether to pursue the death penalty, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern Virginia.

Pacheco Mejia and two others allegedly traveled to Reston to sell cocaine to Colvin Morris. When Morris allegedly tried to steal the cocaine, the three men chased him and allegedly shot and killed Morris as he attempted to flee.

Pacheco Mejia and the other two suspect eventually fled for Honduras, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office release.

The Washington Post identifies the other two men as Jose Santos Ponce Zuniga and Noel Urbina Zelaya. Zuniga was reportedly charged with murder.
