Herndon Police Mark 34 Years As Accredited Department
The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies reaccredited the Herndon Police Department on Friday.

HERNDON, VA — The Town Of Herndon Police Department received its 10th reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), according to a post on the department's official Twitter account.
"This award reflects 34 consecutive years of accredited status since the department's initial accreditation in 1986, and validates the department's compliance with national law enforcement standards and practices," HPD said in the Twitter post. "State and national efforts have recently focused an emphasis on agencies becoming accredited and the Herndon Police Department has proudly maintained this critical compliance of 34 years."
Created in 1979, CALEA operates as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of the four major executive associations of law enforcement: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), National Sheriffs' Association (NSA), and Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
