Herndon Town Council To Consider Doubling Pay To Match That Of Neighboring Jurisdictions
Members of the Herndon Town Council will be considering whether to give themselves a raise for the first time in 15 years on Tuesday.

HERNDON, VA — It's been more than 15 years since the Herndon mayor or members of the Town Council have received a pay raise, but that may soon change if the council approves a resolution currently under consideration.
During a work session on Tuesday, the council will discuss whether to increase the compensation they receive so that it is more in line with surrounding jurisdictions.
Currently, the town's annual expense for the mayor and council members' pay is $26,000, with the mayor receiving $6,000 and council members $4,000 each.

The proposal under consideration would double the compensation for the mayor and more than double the pay for council members, with each receiving $12,000 and $10,000, respectively. That figure is based on the average compensation received by similar positions in six surrounding jurisdictions.
If these new pay levels are approved, the annual expense for the town would increase by $16,000 for a total of $42,000.
