Police: Toddler Found Wandering Alone Outside

A Herndon woman was charged last week with child neglect after town police said they found her 3-year-old wandering around unsupervised outside their home.

The mother, Mayra Fuentes Canas, 29, was located and returned to the home, according to a Herndon police report.

The toddler was discovered outside on Jan. 27 by an unidentified resident in the 900 block of Branch Drive, the report said.

The police determined the mother had departed the house, leaving the child asleep in the home alone. The child later awoke, exited the house and was found by the resident.
