Police Seek Links Between Monday's Attack In Chantilly And A Similar Incident On May 18

Detectives released photos and a surveillance video of a man they say sexually assaulted a Chantilly woman on Monday morning.

CHANTILLY, VA — Fairfax County Police released surveillance video and photos of a man they say sexually assaulted a woman Monday morning in a Chantilly neighborhood. The case is similar to an attempted assault that occurred in the same area in May, according to police.

Officers responded around 11:30 a.m. Monday to the 14500 block of Northeast Place, where a woman reported she had just been assaulted.

According to a news release, the woman was outside with her mother when the assault occurred. Her mom had gone to a neighbor's house to knock on the door when "a man approached the victim and forcefully grabbed her in an intimate area and then put her in a chokehold."

The victim was not physically injured during the incident, according to police.

Detectives are now looking for possible links between this attack and a burglary and attempted sexual assault that occurred May 18 in the 14500 block of Iberia Circle in Chantilly. In that case, the suspect assaulted the victim after he entered her house through an unlocked door. Police released a composite sketch of the suspect in that case on Monday.

Police described the suspect in Monday's attack as a tall Hispanic man in his 40s, with a medium build and straight black hair. He was wearing a black hat, gray shirt, dark pants and a surgical-style face mask.

Photos of the suspect taken from a community member's home security camera were also released by police and accompany this report.
