Town of Herndon Names New Acting Town Manager

Bill Ashton will serve as acting town manager after the retirement of Art Anselene, which will happen next month.

HERNDON, VA — Herndon will soon have a new town manager to replace Art Anselene -- who is retiring -- for the time being.

Mayor Lisa Merkel and the Herndon Town Council intend to appoint Bill Ashton as the acting town manager at their next public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, according to a statement from the town.

Currently, Ashton serves as the director of information technology for the Town of Herndon. He will assume the new position on Feb. 1.

“Bill’s management experience and instincts, his operations expertise and his thorough knowledge of town policies make him the optimal candidate for this role,” Merkel said in the statement. “Herndon is at a critical juncture on many key projects. We need an executive at the reins who can jump right in and help navigate these projects toward completion. We are extremely fortunate to have Bill among our ranks and are grateful for his acceptance of this new role.”

Ashton has worked for the town since 1998, and is Herndon's first director of information technology.
