Traffic Alert: Walker Road Bridge To Close Saturday

On Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be closing Walker Road at the bridge over Piney Run in Great Falls to replace badly deteriorated beams.

Traffic will be detoured via Colvin Run Road, Route 7, Springvale Road and Route 193 (Georgetown Pike). In the event of inclement weather, the closure will occur on Sunday, VDOT said.

The bridge was built n 1932 and has been identified as a project for replacement, VDOT said. The $4.7 million project is currently in the design phase with construction scheduled in the summer of 2017.
