Herndon Husband, Wife Identified As Couple In Suspected Murder-Suicide In Reston
Fairfax County Police identified a Herndon husband and wife as the victims in Wednesday's suspected murder-suicide at a Reston area park.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Police identified 69-year-old Patricia Garverick and 75-year-old Richard Garverick as the victims in the murder-suicide that occurred Wednesday afternoon at a Reston park, according to a release. The couple were both residents of Herndon.
Officers responded around 3 p.m., to the area of Statton Woods Park at 2431 Fox Mill Road for the report of an unconscious man and woman on a trial nearby, according to police. When police arrived, they found each of the Garvericks suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. The couple was declared deceased at the scene by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel
Investigators believe that after shooting his wife Patricia, Richard shot himself. A firearm and cartridge cases were recovered from the scene and the couple's vehicle was located in the park's parking lot, according to police.

The Garvericks' bodies were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner where autopsies will be performed to confirm the cause and manner of death, according to the release. Members of the Victim Services Division are assisting the family to assure that they receive the appropriate recourses and assistance.
