Patch: What is 13 Magikal Moons?
Beaty: It is a metaphysical shop which caters to spirituality and to alternative religions. The shop provides a bevy of unique and creative handmade products including herbs, candles and jewelry. We also have a healing center, books, gemstones and oils. People that don’t practice alternative religions even come into the shop. Customers can also take advantage of classes, life coaching, hypnosis and even Tea Nights.

What brought you to the 13 Magikal Moons?
From the first day I came in [the second day the shop opened], I knew it would be mine. I worked 16- to 20-hour days. The original owners ran it more like a hobby and after two years I bought the first owner out and then a year later I owned the entire shop. Before that, I was working a 9-5 job doing web development and desktop publishing making a good salary and traded it for this shop.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Take business and accounting classes. You don’t need a degree, but take an accounting class. Be able to follow your accountant. Also maintain balance and be healthy.
What distinguishing trait do you feel successful entrepreneurs should have?
Charisma. Entrepreneurs have to have the ability to charm customers and creditors. Be friendly without being flirtatious and interactive without being inappropriate. Entrepreneurs should make each person feel like they are the most important person that entered your shop.
Do you have any future for your shop?
In the spring and summer of 2011 I will focus on the healing center and making it more of a friendly environment. I will also bring in different product lines. Finally, the shop will see some changes in September with a new logo, a new identity, and I will change the name to the Witches Shop.
