House of Mercy starts job search network group
Group will meet every Wednesday at 6 p.m. beginning April 3

MANASSAS, Va. – The House of Mercy, a nonprofit humanitarian organization located in Manassas, Va., has started a self-help job search networking group. Beginning April 3, the group will meet every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the House of Mercy.
"We are looking for job searchers from a wide range of professional, technical, managerial and administrative fields to participate in this interactive process to update their employment search skills," said House of Mercy Executive Director Kellie Ross. "Participants work together to share their expertise, job leads, job-seeking knowledge and experiences with each other. People in programs like this across the country are now working together, helping each other find new employment and career opportunities."

Participation in the group will be structured and self-directed, Ross said. Members will engage in job-seeking methods, under the general guidance of a facilitator, to actively seek job openings and set up interviews. They can work at House of Mercy or at their homes, she said. The meetings are free for all participants.
"Meeting weekly as a group, participants will be able to share professional insights based on life experiences and provide advice and encouragement to one another," Ross said. In addition to active networking, meetings will cover a variety of topics related to the job-search process, including personal skills assessment, job search methods, resume writing and interview techniques, she said.
In addition to attending meetings every week, group members will also be encouraged to volunteer their time and services to maintain program operations. "In this way the group becomes dynamic and personal for each participant," Ross said.
