Fairfax, VA – More than 40 Deloitte employees have volunteered to participate in the IRS Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program on Saturday, February 23 in Annandale. These local professionals will provide income tax preparation services to low and middle-income taxpayers in Northern Virginia at no cost to the participants. This is the 7th year of Deloitte’s VITA participation in Northern Virginia
Many of the families assisted may qualify for special tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. The efforts of these Deloitte volunteers will help taxpayers with a household income of $51,000 or less claim credits to which they are entitled. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the federal government’s most effective anti-poverty policies; it lifts more than five million Americans above the federal poverty line each year. Each year millions of EITC refunds go unclaimed in Fairfax County. The potential refunds may directly impact a family’s cash flow.

The provision of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) highlights Deloitte’s commitment to what it calls “skills-based volunteering.” Vincent Ferraro, Regional Managing Partner for Deloitte Tax LP in McLean, VA feels strongly about the company’s involvement in the VITA program. “We are tax people - this is our specialization, and VITA is a natural way for us to use our skills and experiences to give back to the community.”
In addition to helping clients prepare their taxes, Deloitte will provide on-site childcare to allow parents/guardians to concentrate on the tax preparation process. Spanish, Vietnamese language volunteers will also be available.
This program is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (marketed in Northern Virginia as the CASH campaign, www.nvacash.org), which runs throughout the income tax filing season.
The event will take place at Fairfax SkillSource Center – Annandale, Heritage Center, 7611 Little River Turnpike, Suite 300 West Annandale, VA, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
