The International Day of Prayer for Peace is an event sponsored locally by Unity in the Community and hosted, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 by the Dar AlNoor Islamic Community Center, 5404 Hoadly Rd, Manassas.
This year's event, "Global Truce, With Whom Will You Make Peace?" will highlight stories of a variety of communities including Native American, African American, Muslim, immigrant and families who have suffered from the suicide of a family member. In response the participating community will offer prayers for reconciliation and healing led by members of various faith traditions. Small group discussions and community pot luck will conclude the event. This is a true interfaith gathering with representatives from the Native American, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, African American, Sikh, Unitarian Universalist and Baha'i communities. It is a revelation to learn through our different religious traditions how much we hold in common, and how small the walls are that we allow to divide us.
