Lake Ridge Middle School Highlights Academic Achievement at Annual Reception

Lake Ridge Middle School Parent Teacher Student Organization celebrated students' academic achievements at annual Honors Reception.

On the morning of May 26, Lake Ridge Middle School celebrated academic achievement during its annual Parent Teacher Student Organization Honors Reception.  Students who received an A grade in every subject for at least one quarter of the year were honored.

Over 220 students received a certificate of achievement.  Principal Jo C. Fitzgerald said, “[The ceremony] demonstrates the seriousness with which children approach each day.  Our school motto is ‘What time is it? It’s time to learn,’ and these students are examples of [our motto] and that for which our school stands.”

Stephanie Bahm, mother to eighth-grader Wyatt, said she enjoyed attending the event because she loves to see “schools honor kids who work really hard in academic areas and put focus on learning.”

Sixth-grade student Christian Majchrowitz’s mother Saskia said, “I feel very proud; it’s a really nice program that encourages young kids to continue to succeed.”

Students who achieved straights As all year were set apart by having an asterisk placed next to their name on the program.

“Earning the asterisk means not only combining natural abilities with hard work, but also finding a way to be successful in spite of the different teaching styles at the school,” Jo Houston, a mother to a seventh grader, said.  “Griffin is our asterisk child.”

Six eighth-grade students received a medal to commemorate their academic excellence.  Diana Buckley, Kelsey Fields, Elena Gildner, Maegan Mikkelsen, Rachel Morgan, and Matcyn Stern earned an A grade in every subject for all three years attended at LRMS.

“We’ve honored more medal recipients today than in recent years,” Fitzgerald said.

Christian Majchrowitz and fellow sixth-grader Philippe Demartin each hope to earn an academic medal at the end of eighth grade.  Both were surprised that boys had not achieved the award this year.  “It would be awesome to get an A in all subjects every year,” Demartin said.

Following the ceremony, the LRMS PTSO hosted a reception in the school cafeteria.  PTSO members served cake and punch to staff members, parents, and students.
