Because there are no fire hydrants in this part of Purcellville, crews called for a tanker taskforce to bring water to the scene.
Fire crews reported that there was a significant amount of fire erupting from the front of the home, and firefighters knocked down the bulk of the blaze from the outside. They then entered the home to search for the dogs and extinguish the remaining fire.
Firefighters found the two dogs and pulled them from the burning building, authorities said. First responders provided oxygen and first aid at the scene, but the dogs did not survive.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office reported that the fire was accidental and caused by electrical components on the outside of the house. Authorities estimated that the blaze caused $800,500 in damages.
