243rd Anniversary of the Rev War Battle of Guilford Courthouse

A large contingent of Compatriots from the National Society Sons of the American Revolution assembled at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park to commemorate the 243rd Anniversary of a Battle that influenced the outcome of the Revolutionary War. Multiple State Societies and Chapters within various states also attended. Virginia SAR President Bill Greaf represented the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was fought March 15, 1781 between 4,500 American men led by Major General Nathanial Greene and 2,100 British men led by Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis. The outcome was a tactical victory for the British. However, British casualties are estimated to have been as high as 27% of the force. The result was a strategic victory for the Americans. Ultimately, Cornwallis led his troops into Virginia, settling in Yorktown where the combined American Army under Greene, Lafayette, Wayne, Washington and French Lieutenant General Comte De Rochambeau defeated the British.

The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter was represented by Ken Bonner who presented the chapter wreath in commemoration of the Battle.
